With the recent release of Tamiya's Valentine kit this walkaround is well timed. I've always liked the Valentine, both because of the aesthetically pleasing design and the fact that it was a rare example of a British Second World War tank which was half decent.
Clearly it didn't hold a candle to later tanks such as the Comet and the excellent Centurion, whether technically or in terms of the armoured theory informing the design, but this was, after all, the most produced British tank of the War.
The Bovington example is in very good condition and features a very pleasing colour scheme which allows for all sorts of experimentation with the airbrush.
Note in particular the hard edge of the darker elements of the scheme and the nature of the colour, which is more of a grey-black, such as Tamiya's NATO black.
I've tried to provide some good shots of the rear of the vehicle since this is an area which is often neglected in walkarounds.
I was also struck by the casting texture on the turret, which you can see in the image below. It's unlike any casting texture I've seen, resembling a crepe paper effect. Tamiya appear to have captured this in their new kit.
There is also the issue of tracks and track covers.
Obviously the example here has heavily worn and aged tracks and wheels but hopefully this is a useful view.
Happy modelling,
Nick
