Celebrating 10th Anniversary of Indigo Delicatessen with a Special Menu

Being a food blogger is exciting and rewarding at the same time. You get firsthand information about special menus, which is a huge incentive if you're a foodie. Not only that, every time you meet a chef, you get a whole new perspective on why good food continues to be the latest vogue.

Last night I visited the Indigo Delicatessen (a. k. a. Indigo Deli), an upscale restaurant located at the level three of plush Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj, Delhi.

I was invited by the Indigo staff to get a sneak peek into their 10th anniversary sampler menu.

First Impression

The first thing you'll notice about Indigo is that it is not just a restaurant but a fine food/kitchen store.

Set in the perfect ambiance of social conviviality, Indigo offers its patrons a wide variety of options to choose from, including bakery, cafe menu, patisseries, and gourmet retail.

Founded by Rahul Akerkar, who is also the Managing Director at Indigo, the restaurant goes by the philosophy of "eating global cooking local".

A Wall at Indigo Deli

At the restaurant I was ecstatic to meet Executive Chef Jaydeep (a. k. a. JD) and Chef Ritwik, who provided me some wonderful insights into their sampler menu.

Jyotika & Moi

To commemorate a fantastic 10-year run for Indigo Deli, they're hosting the Decadent Weekend from July 10 to 12, 2015. The special menu boasts of Teas, Soups, Small & Smaller Plates, and Sweet.

What We Had

Beverages

Black Forest Iced Tea
My Rating: 3 out of 5

Essentially a cherry juice with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and a bit of cocoa and cinnamon. I must say this was my favorite among a bevy of beverages I tasted at Indigo.

Black Forest Iced Tea

Red and White Wine Sangrias
My Rating: 3 out of 5 (white wine), 2 out of 5 (red wine)

If you're ordering sangria at Indigo, go for the white wine instead of the red. Since wine is the most dominant ingredient of this aromatized drink, it contains chopped apples with the addition of natural citrus-fruit extracts and essences to jazz things up a bit.

Soup

Minestrone with 2 Bean, Vegetable and Basil Pesto
My Rating: 5 out of 5

An absolute must-have. Imagine a generous garnish of pesto mixed with the intense aroma of basil and garlic. This soup is to die for!

Smaller Plates

Churros with Bacon Sour Cream and Wicked Sauce
My Rating: 5 out of 5

Made of flour, milk, water, chives and thyme and served best with garlic mayonnaise or garlic sour cream, these delicious choux pastries will simply melt in your mouth. By far, the best I've had in ages.

Fried Mac and Cheese
My Rating: 4 out of 5

I have a fetish for cheese and if it's deep-fried, even better. Made of Cheddar and Italian cheeses, this mac is scooped into balls and breaded. Crispy, creamy, soft, and scrumptious - go, enjoy this great appetizer.

Small Plates

Duck Burger
My Rating: 4 out of 5

Succulent duck leg served with plum sauce and coriander in bao. This confit burger is stuffed with pickle vegetables, crispy duck skin, sesame oil and seed, and vinegar. Unlike any other burger you've tasted before, this one will blow your mind with its unique flavors.

Slow Braised Pork Belly Benny, Caramel Onions and Bearnaise
My Rating: 3 out of 5

You can't go wrong with a burger that contains moist pork belly, apple sesame vinaigrette, and spring onion saw. This decadent pork belly burger is served best with caramel onions and bearnaise. Throw caution to the wind, and take that BIG bite. You'll not regret it!

The Deli Breakfast Burrito
My Rating: 4 out of 5

These tortillas are made of flour, scrambled eggs, cheese, and chopped tomatoes. If you're in a mood to try Southwestern-style meal, this is the one you should go for.

Sweet

Dulce De Leche Creme Caramel with Chocolate Walnut Biscotti
My Rating: 5 out of 5

Dulce De Leche is a type of caramel used in liquid form, mostly as a sauce for cakes, cookies, ice creams, etc. The Chocolate Walnut Biscotti cake was served hot, fresh from the oven. Together, they make a lethal combination.

Hazelnut Creme Brulee in Oreo Crust
My Rating: 4 out of 5

Treat yourself to a lovely hazelnut creme brulee with Oreo crust.

Hazelnut Creme Brulee in Oreo Crust

An Italian specialty, the brulee is made of finely ground hazelnuts and gianduja.

I won't lie; I liked everything at Indigo Deli. No frills, no pretensions.

Lovely Seating Arrangement at Indigo Deli
